I agree completely, photojournalism is one of the few exceptions to shooting raw. I would also argue that you could shoot jpg+raw and have more flexibility down the road if desired.

We never shot RAW, speed is the essence of news photography and JPEG’s were (and still are) the fastest way to get an photo to press. Editors don’t want to wait!

This make is easier to make sound decisions about how to break the rules when setting out to make something unique.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Comment on Abstract Subject Photography by David Hannon http://forgetthethirds.com/abstract-subject-photography/#comment-5 Wed, 27 May 2015 09:27:31 +0000 http://forgetthethirds.com/?p=149#comment-5 Nicely stated. When one “breaks the rules”/does something unexpected there is tension. That tension can be an irritant or it can open new insights. Too often the casual photographer does things that are irritating, such as a horizon that is 2 or 3 degrees off level. To be effective rule breaking must be dramatic otherwise the image is likely to appear haphazard. In a collection of images what was initially taken as haphazard can reveal itself as a well executed plan. Thanks for your post.
